Based on an anecdote my father Angel loves to tell. As a teenager, he went to a Mexican bullfight in his home city, Puebla. Despite being speared with a sword as part of the tradition – the bull – gore and all – defeated the matador, effectively knocking him down, he laid still on the ground. Silence filled the arena and between whispers speculating his possible death, Angel stood up and clapped.
