I wanted to share the story behind the first piece of this alternative swim line because they all tie deeply to the idea of summer and Cancer season. It started in 2015, when I went to see “Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Lowell High. It was cool to see what schools with a theater production budget could do. I was always carrying a film camera and I shot a lot that night, so the artwork on the swimsuit was one of the few exposed parts of that roll. it was almost empty – and I saw this angel creating this light and I got so excited. I printed it in the darkroom and remain obsessed with that moment I couldn’t even remember in the play but captured a part of, like the characters in Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The print itself is called There is a Light and it Never Goes Out, after the Smiths song ofc.
Later in 2020, bored and home in Mexico during the pandemic I decided I would not only attend IMVU raves but try to become an IMVU creator. One of the first pieces I designed was a blank tank top with this scanned version of the print I somehow still had on my Google Drive.
The last time since the world experienced Venus in Leo during the summer season was in 2015.
While I can’t pinpoint the exact moment this yaer I wanted to create this swimsuit, I read that the last time since the world experienced Venus in Leo during the summer season (when it is Leo’s time to shine) was in 2015. And what that meant for everyone is that we are going to revisit the aesthetics and tastes we had during that era. This print is my favorite souvenir of that rather dark chapter in my life, (besides my dog Missy) and it feels good to know that now – in Midsummer – is its time to be shared and appreciated by many just like Venus in Leo would want to have it.
